M-lab

In its June 2009 edition. Mlab’s bi-monthly magazine, Labnotes, in conjunction with London Business School published an in-depth piece on the successful roll-out of The Idea Exchange at UBS. Having been personally involved with setting up and launching the campaign at UBS, I’d like to share some basic insights that even the most seasoned administrators can be reminded of that helped shape the foundation for the Idea Exchange.

Last week, Brightidea's third Innovation Leaders Birds of a Feather(BOF 3.0) meeting held true to its pledge to promote “progress in the field of innovation”. Designed  for real world practitioners looking to discuss and share strategies in innovation management, the event was an open forum where attendees spoke about their experiences and heard from industry leaders.

Brightidea Clients and Partners,

This is the first Ph.D we've seen in Idea and Innovation Management !

Managing the Idea management and Idea Generation Process according to an Innovation Expert.

The literature on idea generation and idea management is spotty and confusing. Dr. Brian Glassman a 2009 Ph.D graduate of Purdue University in Innovation Management just completed his Dissertation on this difficult subject and has defined a simple to use model to help innovation practitioners manage these processes.

Maybe starting during the art classes I took in college, I realized every now and then it is good to stand back and admire things from afar. Sometimes I really did admire and other times I realized my hands were sitting crooked on the pottery wheel or I chose totally the wrong aperture for the light that morning. Maybe I learned more from my mistakes but I also learned from my triumphs. Either way, I learned something. What if you stood back and admired your innovation initiative? What would you learn? Next time you stand back, ask yourself at least these 3 things

The Toyota innovation site* loads while displaying questions and phrases such as ?Can your big idea really make the world a better place?? and ?Innovation leads to evolution.? The site main page is the most visual I have seen, setup as an island in the middle of vast white space with very little text. You can mouse over different sections of the island or click the six icons at the bottom of the page to see the six categories of ideas.

Remember the first time you dressed yourself? How about the first meal you prepared? If you were to sit down today with a Superman PJ top, elastic waist jeans, your mom's pearls and backwards patent leather Mary Jane's eating a plate of dirt pancakes and homemade play dough it might seem silly. Back then you probably felt pretty grown up. What was acceptable before is not necessarily acceptable now. You matured with the times. You also became aware of diverse ensembles and entr?e and learned (possibly after some embarrassing mistakes) what is appropriate when. How about your innovation initiative?
