As a user, I've been the target of this kind of workflow. I'd rather have the admin just edit the comment.

This is even more of an issue now with the most recent update. The stickiness of the sort option has disappears and now always reverts to "Active". This is really disruptive and is lowering engagement with the product because people can't see what's the newest things without consciously going up every single time and changing the sort. In most activities we promote general comments to make the process more transparent for everyone involved.
I understand the importance of a comment being private if they want to post that comment type, hence that should be an active manual choice to make a private comment from the drop down list.

Rob Russillo as a short-term solution, have you considered hiding the submission link/buttons except in navigation bar, setting the navigation item to "Analyst" access, and then assigning leaders the analyst role? While this technically doesn't restrict access to the submission page, it would be quite difficult for anyone other than leaders to fin . . . more

Following up on this, has there been any discussion? It still stands with our Gig Marketplaces; it would be beneficial to structure as stated below. "We want all the participants to access and apply for gigs, but only certain users (leaders) to post gigs. "
